Welcome from the Acting Associate Headmaster
On behalf of us all at St Augustine’s I am delighted to welcome you to our school and website. You will be able to find out about us through browsing this site but you can find out even more by visiting the school and looking around for yourselves.
We are blessed with an excellent team of teachers and teaching assistants who together with an effective Governing Body make education here a really enjoyable experience for all. Pupils achieve well and our GCSE results this year were particularly pleasing, with 68% 5 A*-C including English and mathematics being the best in our part of the county. A key part of our success has been because of the importance we give to literacy. The use of mentors, daily reading and other opportunities to engage learners with reading have had a positive impact on all pupils achieving their full potential.
However, though academic achievement is important it is not the only thing. What is most important for us is that we are a Catholic School and our vision statement acknowledges that we recognise God in each individual.
“St Augustine’s School is a Catholic school which, through a holistic approach to education, and in a caring environment, encourages the development of each pupil’s full potential within the framework of the teaching of the Gospel and the Church.”
We want every pupil to achieve their full potential academically and spiritually. Two years ago when Pope Benedict visited Britain he said:
“Education is about forming the human person, equipping him or her to live life to the full – in short it is about imparting wisdom. And true wisdom is inseparable from knowledge of the Creator”
Having said that, we do not only accept Catholic pupils. Anyone who believes their child can benefit from the ethos and nurturing of St Augustine’s should apply or visit our School. We want pupils to look back over their time with us with fond memories and recognition that they have had a fantastic five years as preparation for their adult lives.
God bless,
Mr D Vickers
