February to May St Augustine’s School is having a big drive on Recycling used batteries as part of a National Schools Partnership.

Each year 600 million batteries are thrown away. Over 20,000 tonnes end up in landfill sites causing problems for the environment and our health. It can take batteries 100 years to decompose.

By recycling batteries the useful materials such as metals steel, zinc and manganese can be used in construction and might end up as part of a new skyscraper.

Each form will have a collection box for any used batteries, at the end of the month the form which collected the most gets a free dress day!
