Year 11 sent two teams to compete the area badminton competition at George Pindar School on Tuesday evening, to compete against George Pindar and Scalby.

The boys’ team consisted of Daniel Marr, Owen Riley, James Briggs and Killian Mannon, whilst Lucy Webster, Bhavana Binooj, Olivia Tenorio and Alexis Zulueta competed for the girls.

It was a tough evening for the boys as Dan and Owen both lost their opening singles, and then doubles games to Scalby, whilst the doubles pairing of James and Killian lost both their opening matches.

The girls faired better against Scalby, with Bhavana earning an excellent 21-15 singles victory. Lucy suffered singles defeat in her first match, as did the doubles pairing of Olivia and Alexis. However, Lucy and Bhavana played some excellent doubles to win their rubber 21-18, as Olivia and Alexis narrowly missed out.

Against George Pindar the boys continued to struggle. Dan and Owen again suffering singles defeat, as did the gallant duo of James and Killian in their doubles. The final two doubles matches saw James and Owen team up in a narrow 21-15 loss, whilst Dan and Killian suffered a final defeat.

The girls restored some St Augustine’s pride with some excellent performance against George Pindar. Lucy and Bhavana earning dominant singles victories 21-5 and 21-4, respectively. Whilst Olivia and Alexis earned a comfortable 21-7 win in the doubles. Lucy and Bhavana dominate their double match with a stellar 21-2 demolition of their opponents, whilst Olivia and Alexis were very unlucky not to complete the whitewash, as they went down to a battling 24-22 defeat.
