It has been a very busy period for the St Augustine’s Music Department this Christmas with the pupils taking part in many events including a wonderfully moving evening with Chamber Choir singing at B Bernard and Sons Carol Service.

St Augustine’s Jazz Orchestra playing in the bitter cold in the town centre wowing the crowds as they shopped, the Chamber choir serenading the shoppers singing at Morrison’s, Chamber Choir leading the school Advent liturgy at St Peter’s Church, Chamber Choir and Chamber Band at the end of term Carol Service in school for all the pupils and staff and the annual school Christmas Concert.

The highlight of this period was the Christmas Concert held at Westborough Church to a full house of over 500. There were a record 191 current pupils taking part, just under a third of the school with many ex pupils also coming back to take part in the festive concert. The Junior, Senior, Male Voice and Chamber Choirs sang beautiful arrangements of a variety of songs including May it Be, Defying Gravity, O Holy Night and Never, Never from the Greatest Showman. The St Peter’s school Orchestra, Senior Orchestra, Junior Jazz Orchestra and Jazz Orchestra had the feet tapping to Feliz Navidad, The Most Wonderful time of the Year and an amazing Jazz version of God Rest ye Merry Gentlemen entitled Comfort and Joy.

Mr Barron said “Another incredible evenings entertainment from some fine musicians. A truly professional concert again. This has left me very proud of the young people here who commit so much time and effort to the music department. A very busy period for everyone, but so very rewarding. Happy Christmas!”
