Elspeth Ingham, Phoebe Hudson, Juliette Moran and Niamh Upton did an outstanding job on Tuesday representing St Augustine’s for the area Badminton tournament. Sadly only 2 other schools entered but the girls did well to play back to back matches with not many rests in between!

There first competition was against Scalby, in the singles matches they didn’t manage to outshine Scalby, struggling to react with more aggressive shots put towards them. However, during the doubles, Phoebe and Juliette had a close game but kept their composure to win the game 21-19. The doubles pairing of Niamh and Phoebe also worked well to pull a bigger lead, with Niamh playing some excellent net shots and the girls winning the game 21-14.

There final competitors were Pindar School. Elspeth took an early lead for our team in her singles game beating her opponent with some lovely back court play 21-16. The doubles pairing of Phoebe and Juliette showed themselves again to be unstoppable as their fast reactions across the court and tactical play meant that they had another win with the scoring 21-19 again.

The girls just missed out on progressing to the next round but did well to come second overall.
