It was nice to finally be back to fixtures this year, the enthusiasm and commitment from our pupils has always impressed me when it comes to extra-curricular. The year 11 girls don’t have many netball fixtures due to the pressures of the year so we are making sure we enjoy them and have fun! After a bit of a shaky start of the day with 4 of the team missing due to illness – two wonderful year 10s Poppy Rewcroft and Meeka Henry stepped up to fill in and we are very grateful to them both for coming to the rescue!

A big thank you to Olive Stubbings who also gave up her evening to come and film for some of the girls GCSE PE assessment, she has also offered to come to the next 2 fixtures as well which is really appreciated.

After a slow start due to one taxi turning up 30minutes late we managed to all get to Scalby ready to start the tournament. It has been a long time since the girls played netball so it was a bit of a shock to the system against Scalby for the first match and with half the usual team missing, the girls did really well despite losing by quite a few goals.

Their second match against Pindar started off with the first half being even scored with Lucy Carson having some outstanding interceptions in defence to stop them from scoring any further. Meeka and Poppy both did well adapting to their new positions in defence, Poppy gaining height on the ball and Meeka throwing herself into every challenge on the ball. It is clear than Mia Gardner-Long has been practicing netball with Scarborough Netball Club (SNC) and the ladies league as her game has really stepped up, driving forwards to get free. Rosa Clay and Eliza King demonstrated their experience within the game, understanding how to read the play of the game well which meant they were able to pre-empt Pindar’s game plan. The second half saw Sandra Kukurowska taking the ball up in attack with some speedy play and Mia Swalwell playing out of position as GS but managing to get some lovely bounce feeds from Eliza to help add to the final score of St Augustine’s winning 8-3.
