All the girls were excited for their first rounders tournament representing St Augustine’s. There were a total of 10 schools coming to St Augustine’s for the district tournament, so it was a big tournament for the girls to be playing in.

The girls have been working hard every Monday and Wednesday lunch time practising their match skills, despite this the nerves kicked in and a lot of questions were asked before their first game again Fylinghall. Yasmin, Sophie and Elsie had a strong fielding trio of backstop, bowler and 4th base making quick decisions to respond to the batting skills.

Nina, Lily and Maisie made some brilliant post decisions, stopping teams from scoring half and full rounders. There were some big hits against LLS but with Olivia, Lacey and Olivia all on outfield their powerful throws managed to get the ball back into Elsie on 4th base forcing the opposition to stop at 3rd base. Megan and Daisy were quick to respond to fast balls being hit towards them, reacting well when deciding where to send the ball next.

As the matches went on the girl’s confidence kept going up and their fielding choices were brilliant, they were quick to communicate and make a decision about where the ball should go in a split second which is one of the hardest things about rounders. The girls just need a bit more batting practice over the next few weeks before their next tournament in July.

Well played girls.
